कंप्यूटर एक इलेक्ट्रॉनिक यंत्र है जिसका उपयोग सूचना (Data) को संग्रहित (Store), प्रक्रिया (Process) और प्रदर्शित (Display) करने के लिए किया जाता है। इसके मुख्य कार्य इस प्रकार हैं:

कंप्यूटर की परिभाषा (Definition of Computer)

कंप्यूटर एक इलेक्ट्रोनिक स्वचालित मशीन है, जो निर्देशों के नियंत्रण में डेटा पर क्रिया (Processing) करके सूचना प्रतिपादित करता है। यह राॅ डेटा को निवेश (Input) के रूप में स्वीकार करता है तथा उन पर क्रिया करके परिणाम (Output) के रूप में अर्थपूर्ण सूचनाएं प्रदर्शित करता है।
